The Course

Contemporary Chinese Performance Culture is an undergraduate course taught by Dr. Emily Wilcox, Associate Professor of Modern Chinese Studies in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Michigan.

The class examines humanistic expression in Chinese performing arts of the twenty-first century. Through their examinations of major performance works, students learn to appreciate and analyze performances as reflections of social processes in China and the Chinese diaspora and as modes of intra-cultural and intercultural exploration.
